Hey besties! We’re back with another exciting feature, and this time, we chatted with Kae of Kaebykendrah, a professional freelance Makeup Artist based in Dubai.
She has been in this industry for 5 years now and offers a wide range of makeup services, from natural looks to more dramatic, special occasion looks.
In this article, we talked about her inspirations, challenges, and the milestones that have shaped her path.
1. Your beauty page has such an engaging vibe! What inspired you to start your journey as a beauty creator and content influencer?
Kae: I have always loved social media, and being able to express my passion for it as a career is honestly a dream come true.
My inspiration came from my love for beauty and the desire to make everyone feel beautiful. To truly be inspired, you have to love what you do—and for me, that’s makeup. It’s a win-win situation.
2. As a Black beauty entrepreneur in the UAE, what unique challenges have you faced, and how have you navigated them?
Kae: The UAE is a fast-paced, global society. The biggest challenge I faced was navigating my career, gaining the trust of clients, and securing the support of other talented artists.
I always tell people, when you move to a new environment, take time to study it, reach out to others, and learn from their experiences. That’s how I’ve been able to thrive here—no one can do it alone.
3. What are some standout moments or milestones you’ve achieved that make you look back and say, “I did that!”?
Kae: Oh my gosh, where do I start? Working with celebrities, hosting my own masterclass, and being flown out for work are some of my proudest moments.
One of the most surreal experiences was attending an event where people were talking about me—without knowing I was in the room! Hearing such positive things was incredibly humbling.
4. The beauty industry is always evolving—how do you stay on top of trends while staying true to your brand and identity?
Kae: You can’t be rigid in this industry. While having a signature style or niche is important, you also have to evolve with the times. I take classes, watch videos, learn from other artists, and practice a lot.
That said, my signature soft glam finish is what I’m known for. So while I keep learning, I’ve made sure to enhance and refine my niche.
5. In one of your YouTube videos, you mentioned falling in love with Dubai after planning just a holiday visit. From your perspective, how has the reception been towards Black beauty creators and makeup artists in the UAE?
Kae: It’s been amazing. I love the UAE so much—it helped me find my dream.
I wasn’t always a makeup artist back home, but I fully started in 2019 after moving here. While I feel brands can do more to recognize Black creators, my experience has been nothing short of amazing. I’m excited about what’s to come.
6. What role has your community and audience played in your growth as a beauty creator? What’s the secret to building such strong engagement?
Kae: My Kae Angels! I love them so much. They’ve been instrumental in my growth, especially through referrals.
The secret to strong engagement? Be kind, relatable, and open. Never underestimate the power of good communication and genuine connections.
7. Can you share a moment where a project, event, or campaign didn’t go as planned, and what you learned from that experience?
Kae: Honestly, I’m such an over-planner that I rarely have major mishaps. If I plan to do something, I make sure it gets done.
That said, clients sometimes cancel bookings at the last minute. It’s taught me to always expect the unexpected and stay adaptable.
8. For other young beauty entrepreneurs who want to create in a space like the UAE, what advice would you give them?
Kae: Study your environment. Reach out to those who came before you. Don’t copy, don’t rush—just focus on being great at your craft.
Be open to learning, avoid comparing your growth to others, and never let envy get in the way. We’re all running different races. Most importantly, don’t give up. The world belongs to those who knock—and keep knocking.
9. Are there any makeup brands or creators you look up to that have shaped your vision or style? Who are they and why?
Kae: There are so many! Made by Mitchell, Danessa Myricks, Makeup Forever, Zikel Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury, and Huda Beauty are just a few.
I admire how they promote their products with so much passion and how they support creators. Honestly, I’m still waiting for the day Huda adds me to her PR list—it’ll happen!
10. What’s next for you? Any exciting projects, collaborations, or goals you’re working toward?
Kae: I’m excited about some upcoming trips! I might even produce a product—who knows? I’m also looking forward to collaborating with amazing makeup brands and growing my craft.
Ultimately, my goal is to be recognized as one of the best makeup artists out there while continuing to grow across all social platforms.
Closing Thoughts:
Kae’s journey is an inspiration to aspiring beauty creators worldwide, proving that with dedication and authenticity, dreams can indeed become reality!
